Talbot Grove

March 20, 2019

In your own words, tell us about your project.
Located in a historic home, Talbot Grove was established in 1993 with the aim of treating people with addictions and other related issues.

The centre is located in the picturesque county of Kerry, adjacent to Castleisland town in a pleasant and peaceful environment. It has the feeling of being at home with its comfortable surroundings, pleasant walks and areas for contemplation but with the assurance of privacy and confidentially.

All treatments are broadly based on a combination of the Minnesota Model of Addiction Treatment and the 12 Step Approach originally developed by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).

Our services are delivered by a team of professionally qualified & highly experienced Addiction Counsellors at our centre in Castleisland, the only one of its kind in the South West.

A 30 day Residential Programme is available to those suffering from Alcoholism, Drug Addiction, Gambling, Eating Disorders and other addictions.Limited to 12 participants, this is an intensive programme and provides a secure foundation for on-going abstinence and recovery. Each treatment programme is tailored for each participant and their particular needs. It includes Individual Counselling, Group Therapy, Addiction Education and other activities.Female, 55. I found the programme excellent, a lot of thought and caring put into it. Counsellors very understanding and great to help you learn to have a good insight to yourself.Continuing Care Programmes

We recognise that on-going support for participants following treatment at Talbot Grove is essential to their recovery process. Programmes provided at the centre include Weekly Aftercare Group Meetings, Women’s/ Men’s Groups, Relapse Prevention Workshops & Individual Counselling.Male, 25. It helped me to take a good look at myself and my life. I was encouraged to make a decision that I may not have otherwise made. It saved my life and my sanity.

Family / Concerned Persons Programmes

Addiction is often described as a family disease as it impacts negatively on a wide circle of people around the addicted person including family members, friends and work colleagues.Introductory ProgrammeIf you are affected by someone’s addiction or have someone close to you in treatment and need support or information, we offer an introductory programme running 1 day a week for a 4 week period.

Intensive Programme

Following the above programme, we offer an Intensive Programme for those who wish to get a deeper understanding of themselves and the recovery process, this programme runs for one night a week for a 12 week period.
What was the impact or outcome of your project?

Our tailored 30 Day Residential Programme concentrates on individuals, their addiction/s and their long term recovery.

We are non-denominational and welcome people with addiction issues regardless of religion, culture, sexual orientation or prior experience of treatment.

We pride ourselves in being small and intimate with a maxiumum of 12 full time participants in residence at any one time.

We tailor aftercare programmes based on individuals' needs to support their on-going recovery.
We work very closely with external agencies/ support groups so that our participants have the necessary support into the future.
Do you have any tips or advice for similar projects?
To have witnessed first-hand the transformative potential that can be offered to those who seek change. We strongly  believe in a holistic approach to recovery, and in helping to overcome the stigma that is sadly still associated with addictive disorders.
